THE BAR

Ikigai (ee-key-guy) is a combination of the Japanese words “iki” (生き), meaning “life,” and “gai” (甲斐), which is used to describe value. Ikigai is a person's reason for being. It describes passion and purpose - it is the thing that makes life worthwhile.

Inspired by Izakaya culture (post-work informal drinks with snacks), Ikigai brings a niche experience to the Birmingham Independent bar scene, with an array of Japanese spirits, flavourful cocktails and speciality sake.

Sake (sah-keh) is a traditional Japanese spirit brewed from rice. There are so many varied types of Sake and it can be daunting trying something new. Let us help you navigate the intriguing world of Sake!

THE TEAM

Ikigai first entered the Birmingham Independent bar scene in October 2020 in the iconic Jewellery Quarter, opened by hospitality veteran Luke Bensley and his fiancée, Tallulah.

In need of a larger venue, Ikigai then moved to Stirchley in December 2022 when the team had grown to include Luke's youngest brother, Ollie, and cocktail lover Jamie.
